As the world marks the sombre event of the twentieth anniversary of the September 11 assaults, the United Nations remembers the solidarity, unity and resolve expressed twenty years in the past by the worldwide neighborhood for a future with out terrorism, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has stated.
“Today we mark a sombre day seared in the minds of millions of people around the world. A day when nearly 3,000 lives from over 90 countries were taken by terrorists in cowardly and heinous attacks in the United States of America. Thousands more were injured,” Guterres stated on Friday in his message on the event of the twentieth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist assaults.
The assaults, which had been deliberate by al-Qaeda from Afghanistan, noticed 4 US passenger jets seized by suicide attackers – two of which had been flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York.
Another airplane crashed into the Pentagon, simply exterior the US capital, Washington DC, and a fourth airplane crashed in a discipline in Pennsylvania after passengers fought again.

Marking the anniversary, the members of the UN Security Council on Thursday stated that they’re as united in the present day as they had been twenty years in the past of their dedication to stop and counter terrorism in all its kinds.
The 15-nation Council issued a press assertion on the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist assaults, recalling that the Council had rapidly condemned the horrifying terrorist assaults twenty years in the past.
“Today, the members of the Security Council marked this solemn anniversary with a visit to the September 11 Memorial and Museum in New York City. The members of the Security Council are as united today as they were 20 years ago in their commitment to prevent and counter terrorism, in all its forms and wherever it occurs, consistent with international law,” the press assertion stated.
The Permanent Representatives of the 15 Council nations visited the 9/11 Memorial and Museum on September 9.
