Eight terrorists of Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) have been charged within the killing of Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Shaurya Chakra awardee.

The NIA Special Court, Mohali on Wednesday framed costs towards eight terrorists of Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) in case of the killing of Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Shaurya Chakra awardee. The NIA had taken over the investigation within the homicide case nearly 7 months in the past.

Shaurya Chakra awardee Balwinder Singh Sandhu, 62, was shot useless by two unidentified males within the early hours of October 16, 2020 on the residence-cum-school run by him in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district.

The assailants, after committing the homicide, had instantly escaped on a motorbike.

A case was registered below sections of the IPC and the Arms Act in police station Bhikhiwind on the assertion of his spouse Jagdish Kaur.

During the height of terrorism in Punjab, Sandhu and his household had fearlessly fought terrorists.

For this fearless battle, the Government of India awarded him “Shaurya Chakra” in 1993.

Besides Sandhu and Kaur, his elder brother Ranjit Singh and his spouse Balraj Kaur had additionally acquired the Shaurya Chakra.

During the preliminary investigation by Punjab Police, it was revealed that the killing was executed below a conspiracy hatched by Pakistan-based Khalistani Terrorist Lakvir Singh Rode and his handlers in Pakistani intelligence company, ISI, in keeping with an NIA spokesperson.

The killing was executed by means of Sukhmeet Pal Singh of Gurdaspur, a gangster turned terrorist, the official mentioned.

Considering the gravity of the offence and its inter-state and worldwide ramifications, the Ministry of Home Affairs directed the NIA to take up the investigation of the case, the spokesperson mentioned.

In compliance of those instructions, the NIA has re-registered the case and brought up the investigation.
