Pro-Pakistan separatist chief Syed Ali Shah Geelani handed away in Srinagar after extended sickness Wednesday night time. He was 91. 

Geelani, who was a member of banned Jamaat-e-Islami and chairman of hardline Hurriyat Conference, had been affected by varied illnesses for almost final 20 years.

Taking to Twitter, Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti expressed sorrow on the loss of life of Geelani. 

“Saddened by the news of Geelani sahab’s passing away. We may not have agreed on most things but I respect him for his steadfastness & standing by his beliefs. May Allah Ta’aala grant him jannat & condolences to his family & well wishers,” Mufti stated. 

Last 12 months, Geelani had resigned from All Party Hurriyat Conference. Considered because the senior-most separatist chief, Geelani was beforehand a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Kashmir however afterward based his personal celebration by the title of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat.

He has served because the Chairman of the All Parties Hurriyet (Freedom) Conference, a conglomerate of separatist events in Jammu and Kashmir.

Geelani turned an MLA from Sopore constituency in 1972 and gained within the Assembly polls from the identical constituency in 1977 and 1987.
