A big nationwide flag hoisted atop a 111-foot flagpole, the tallest within the Kashmir Valley, was put in at a stadium in Shopian district which has been the worst hit by many years of militancy. Lt Gen D P Pandey who heads the strategically situated XV Corps of the military within the Kashmir Valley unfurled the flag on Tuesday. Personnel of the 44-Rashtriya Rifles labored onerous for the final 10 days to place the large construction in place at Batapora stadium within the south Kashmir district.

Maj Gen Rashim Bali, the General Officer Commanding of the Victor Force which takes care of safety of south Kashmir, Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Range) Vijay Kumar, Brigadier N S Grewal and Commanding Officer of 44-Rashtriya Rifles A Ok Singh had been current on the event. The nationwide flags earlier unfurled in Khanbal in south Kashmir, Gulmarg in north Kashmir and Hari Parbat Fort in Srinagar had been atop 100-foot flagpoles.

Later, a track-and-field competitors was organised for the youth of south Kashmir districts, together with Pulwama, Anantnag and Kulgam. This was for the primary time that such an occasion was organised by which youths from all of the districts of south Kashmir participated. Cricket and volleyball competitions had been additionally held.

The youth from Pulwama walked away with majority of prizes for these occasions. The awards got away by Lt Gen Pandey. Later, a musical occasion was organised.
