Hi-tech Panic Button Now In Goa Cabs to Alert Police: Transport Minister


Digital meters, fitted to vacationer taxis in Goa, may have an automatic GPS-linked misery button which can instantly set off a neighborhood police response, Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho mentioned on Wednesday.

“Goa is the most secure place for everybody, together with womenfolk. That is why there’s a panic button, in case they discover the driving force is doing something humorous. Immediately the alert will come to the server, by way of the server to the management room. Through the management room, a message will go to the respective space from the place the police will find the taxi and go there. This is part of the providers,” Godinho told reporters.

The mandatory installation of digital meters follows a directive from the Bombay High Court bench in Goa, which in its order said that all tourist taxis in Goa should be fixed with the GPS-enabled meters.

“They have got a panic button. They have got GPS. They have a location system. Why is this required? Ours is a tourism state, for the safety of especially lady passengers, all women tourists who come,” Godinho mentioned.

Safety of girls, particularly feminine vacationers, has been a problem within the state, which has witnessed a tourism increase over the past decade. Last month, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant needed to face an opposition barrage within the state meeting over three rape incidents in per week, together with the rape of two minor ladies at a Goa seashore.
